Total Fuckin' Bollocks

This deserves to be reposted:

Not spreading anything, actually.  I don't believe in proselatizing or "witnessing" as they called in the day.  I was raised Baptist myself...scary people a lot of those Baptists.  Not quite as scary as the Mormons and Jehova's Witness people who like to show up on your doorstep at 6:00 a.m. on a Saturday morning.  Still, anyone who puts complete faith in a printed text needs help I think.  The Bible, just like the Quran, Torah, and any other "holy" book was written by human beings, inspired or not...still human beings, therefor it's as fallable as any other text...like, some  tabloid magazine..  Not to mention the fact that it's full of some of the most disgusting acts in literary history including incest, rape, spousal abuse, animal sacrifice, cannibalism (aka communion), etc.

Point is, the site was made to prove a point, that people don't like having "God" or "religion" shoved down their throats, which the reactions proved qtuie nicely.  HOWEVER, when Mike made the site, he was hoping for some actual intellectual discourse on the subject, not just three thousand posts with F*** this and F*** you in every sentance.  (If you can call them sentances.)  What people got from him on their sites were simple statements you hear all the time from the average fundamentalist bible thumping Xtian on the street.  "You need God" and "You need love."  or "You are a devil worshipper and need to get right with God."  As you've noticed, people HATE hearing that, and they have every right to get erked when it's really happening to them.  Like I said, proselatizing (which shares the same root word with the word prostitution)...is wrong.  Essentially it's "pimping your religion", which ought to be a private thing.

Thing is, ever after the whole site was revealed to be a joke and just a social experiment, people STILL went ballistic.  What's up with that?  It's the internet...this isn't real life, ya know?  These are words on a screen...that's it.  Nothing more.  Why the heck to people take things so seriously?  I don't get that at all.  Funny how a simple sentance like "You need God", only misspelled, can send people into a cussing tyrade.  I'm starting to actually feel sorry for the fundies if they have to deal with psychobabble like that on a day to day basis.  Thing is...they don't.  That's just the way people talk on the internet.  If a Baptist preacher knocks on your door on a Wednsday night and tells you that you need to find Jesus, do you scream in his face and say "F You" every three words?  No...people don't do that in person.  At the worst they just shut their door in the guy's face.  Why is it we don't have self-censor buttons online though?  This would be another interesting area to study.  There seems to be a filter that connects our brains to our mouths, but not one that connects our brains to our fingertips while we're typing.

Well...what I believe is just what I believe.  I don't feel it necessary to share my spiritual beliefs with everyone, but do think it's a good idea for people to not be brainwashed.  Religion, in many instances, has just become a device for control, as opposed to salvation or spiritual enlightenment.  The big three are the most notorious for their elements of control (Christianity, Judaism, and Islam).  These three originally GOOD systems of belief have, over the years, been distorted into something used to control the masses, fight blood-thirsty wars, conquer civilizations, and in extreme circumstances commit genocide (ex. when the Isrealites slaughtered the Cannonites under the leadership of Joshua, or the Spanish Inquisition under the Roman Catholic church, also the Salem witch trials and subsequent hanging of a good number of innocent women, children, and a few men who were guilty of nothing.  Religion is a bad thing when you let it rule your life and your thoughts and actions.  Fanaticism....that is what the charector of Harry Balzak represented...  the absurdity and disgustingness that has become fundamentalists in more than just the Christian faith, but especially that faith in this country.
